Every year, the Kerala Agricultural Produce Board (KAPB), the state’s apex body for certification and regulation of the state’s spices, organizes a crop advisory system to educate and guide farmers and businesses across Kerala on the best practices for harvesting and storing spices.

The Spices Board Registration, which is an autonomous body that regulates and controls the sale and import of spices in India, is currently in the process of overhauling its structure and operations. The new Spices Board Regulations, which will be notified soon, will aim to regulate retail spice outlets and enhance the existing role of the public sector in the sale of spices in India.

In accordance with the Kerala Spices Board Rules, 2013, an application for registration of a spice manufacture and a producer of spices can be submitted through online registration mode. The details of the applicant, the manufacturing unit and the producer of the spices are to be submitted along with application forms in the prescribed format and mode. All the details should be submitted in the online registration mode, which is also known as “E-Registration”. Once the details are processed, the registration number will be emailed to them.

The demand for spices is increasing every year, and the spices industry is expected to be a Rs. 30 Crore industry by the end of the year(2016-17).
